A Blast from the Past: My Fashion Tutor Adrien Yakimov Roberts on TV!
Imagine my surprise when I was scrolling through BBC iPlayer and saw a familiar face on “Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour” (Series 1: Episode 3, Rome). My former fashion degree tutor, Adrien Yakimov Roberts from the University for the Creative Arts, is on TV! Talk about a nostalgic moment.

Adrien was a strict teacher, no doubt about it, but his approach was always firm and fair. He had this unique ability to push students to their full potential while maintaining an air of respect and encouragement. Looking back, I genuinely loved being taught by him. If I had to describe him, he’s like the fashion industry’s version of Alan Sugar—direct, insightful, and never afraid to challenge you.
One of my fondest memories of Adrien was during a steampunk project I worked on. He was so intrigued by my designs that, a couple of days later, he showed up at uni dressed in a slightly steampunk-inspired outfit himself! It was such a wonderful gesture and a testament to how deeply he engaged with his students’ creativity.
Seeing him now, he looks so different, but I absolutely love the transformation. It’s a reminder of how fashion and personal style evolve over time—something Adrien always emphasized in his teaching.

If you’re curious to see Adrien Yakimov Roberts and enjoy a fun, fashion-adjacent travel show, check out “Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour: Series 1, Episode 3. Rome” on BBC iPlayer (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001z7wh. It’s well worth the watch!
